About Freedom Street Rods

Though technically, Freedom Street Rods was established in 1984, the story of how it all began goes back much farther.

For David Miller, the owner of Freedom Street Rods, this is where his love of all things automobilia began. His brother shared the same level of fascination. Together, Dave and his brother spent countless hours, if not days, scouring farmer's orchards, and fields looking for spare motor parts, doors, bodies. Their passion was evident in the activeness of their endeavors – learning to weld, sew, tune, and stitch. Their interest in cars knew no limit – VW Beatles, Fiats, British sports cars, Model A Fords, etc. All kinds, varieties, and decades of cars and trucks shared the spotlight for them.

It starts with an ambitious teenager living in the then-Santa Clara Valley, who at 16, used his own hard-earned saving from his start-up fruit-drying enterprise, to purchase what he saw as his first major restoration project: a 1928 Ford Model A.

After 30 years in the tech industry, Dave found himself ready for something different. His entrepreneurial side took over and when the opportunity to take over the ownership of Freedom Street Rods arose in the fall of 2006, Dave jumped at the chance. This fit too well with his own family plans, which included relocating back to the Central Coast of California, where he had spent his former college days. To work exclusively within the industry that he loved best was too good to be true. As well, his frequent excursions between north and south California made him aware of the fact that this was the only physical hot rod part supply between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Throughout these first five years, Freedom Street Rods has gone from a part-time local retailer with unreliable hours to a regional entity in its own right. Every year, the Millers have continued the tradition of hosting the Annual Open House which occurs right before the holiday season and not only helps the community by collecting food donations for our local food bank, but also toys for children from less-fortunate backgrounds. People come from all over California to attend this event and every year, it seems to grow more and more.
